Community Programs List

GLOBAL WHEELCHAIR MISSION
Help change the lives of people with disabilities worldwide by having your council donate at least $150USD in the US and $195CAD in Canada for a wheelchair. Through partnerships, councils can purchase a large container of 280 wheelchairs for their own donation sites. A featured program, Global Wheelchair Mission, counts for two credits toward the Columbian Award.
The Order's wheelchair program reached a major milestone in late 2020, surpassing more than 100,000 wheelchairs since the first donation in 2003.

Coats for Kids
Councils across North America can purchase new winter coats at a discount at knightsgear.com in the United States and Knightsgear.ca in Canada to distribute to children in need in their local communities. Knights of Columbus Coats for Kids®, a featured program, counts for two credits toward the Columbian Award.

BRIGHT FUTURES PROGRAM
The Bright Futures program invites councils to support the students and schools in their communities. Too often, youth face significant barriers to their educational success. Councils can help by providing funding and resources to those most in need. Popular ways to provide support include establishing parish libraries relevant to your local community, running supply drives and fundraisers, participating in school beautification projects and supporting other volunteer programs offered by schools. Catholic schools are in particular need of council support

Helping Hands
Put your faith into action and help people who are less fortunate in your community. In the spirit of our founder, Blessed Michael J. McGivney, councils lead efforts to assist those most in need. Guidelines for this program are broad and can include forming partnerships with local aid organizations or independently planning unique activities.

Habitat for Humanity
Knights of Columbus councils work closely with Habitat for Humanity, a nonprofit Christian organization, to build homes with families in need at substantially reduced costs. Each year, councils throughout the Order donate a considerable number of volunteer hours and dollars to this worthy cause. To satisfy program requirements, councils are asked to donate a minimum of $1,000 or 200 service hours to Habitat for Humanity projects in their community.
